About the Session
As technology continues to impact and shape how we create, communicate and imagine futures, artists have an important role to play in asking the urgent questions of our times – concerning agency, environment, ethics and responsibility. In a moment marked by both excitement and anxiety around artificial intelligence, creative practice can offer ways to think critically about the systems that increasingly mediate our lives. This panel brings together voices from art, sound, research and law to consider how technologies are changing ideas of authorship, art making and the experience of art. Grounded in the themes of Radical Futures, the conversation asks what ethical, sustainable and imaginative futures might look and feel like in the age of AI.
Meet the Facilitator
Dr. Laetitia Wilson, Producer, boorda yeyi, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA)
Laetitia Wilson, PhD, is a Boorloo-based curator, producer and arts writer. She is currently Producer of the boorda yeyi Immersive Arts Program at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA). Wilson has held senior curatorial roles, including Exhibitions Manager and Curator at the Janet Holmes à Court Gallery (2018-25) and curatorial positions at the University of Western Australia, where she additionally researched and taught from 2005-15, developing contemporary art history and theory units. Wilson’s curatorial practice spans major institutions and independent projects, including coordinating curator for SymbioticA’s Demonstrable at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery (2015) and HyperPrometheus (2018) at PICA, co-curator of Theatres at the WA Museum for the Perth International Arts Festival (2015), The Botanical: Beauty and Peril (2019) at the Art Gallery of WA and curator of exhibitions such as Chen Chieh-Jen: Lingchi – Echoes of a Historical Photograph and Inanition: A Speculation on the End of Times at Success Art Space (2016). Wilson has also worked as an independent curator, consultant and freelance arts writer for local and national publications and art critic for The West Australian (2012–2017).
Meet the Panellists
W. Sze Tsang, Independent Artist
w. sze tsang / samarobryn is a researcher, performer and audio-visual artist who explores the intersections of history, place and self through digital technologies. sze creates work using aspects of place – such as field recordings, maps, geospatial and weather datasets – alongside personal reflections to explore the multi-layered intersections between time, history, ecology and geography. Through exposing the multiple layers of narrative that inform place, their works invite unearthings of the past, meditations on the present and contemplations of the future. sze has performed and exhibited works nationally and internationally, presented at international and national conferences, and published academic writings on soundscape composition.
