The Radical Grounding panel explores what happens when regional creatives begin with place. Through site-responsive practice, sculpture and installation our panelists reflect on fire, ecology, material memory and the grounded ways regional communities imagine, create and care for the future.

Sarah Roots, Lead Curator
Sarah Roots is a regional curator and artist. Her curatorial philosophy centres decentring, generative listening and reciprocity, creating conditions where regional voices, lived experience and place-based knowledge can shape more grounded, imaginative and collective futures.
Meet the Panelist
Caitlin Stewart, Artist
Caitlin Stewart is a Western Australian textile artist whose work is inspired by stories of local ecology and human connection. Through hand, machine and sculptural techniques, she explores ideas of strength, fragility, and light and shadow. With a background in community arts administration, Caitlin lives in Jurien Bay.
Saira Ellen K Spencer, Artist
Saira Ellen K. Spencer is a former professional tattoo artist, early career painter and emerging Curator with a penchant for birdlife, disco balls, learning new & obscure words and teaching herself to become ambidextrous.
Through her painting, mixed media sculpture and curatorial practice Saira is interested in exploring the parallels that exist between the natural environment and human experience as well as inviting her fellow Australians to examine our, at times, fraught relationship with the world around us and with each other. She wants to show we have common ground with what grows in the ground.
