Indigenous Curators Session

The Regional Arts Triennial has created several dedicated spaces for Indigenous attendees to connect and yarn and contemplate Radical Futures.
This session will allow emerging and experienced curators to come together to exchange information, explore ideas to collaborate, discuss opportunities for career pathways, funding models, new technologies, cultural safety, as well as projects, mentorships and models which support Indigenous curators. It will support the cultural safety of Indigenous attendees and curators.
Meet the Facilitator
Michelle Broun, Independent Curator, researcher and writer
Michelle Broun is a proud Yindjibarndi woman living and working on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar. She is a curator, creative producer, researcher and qualified cultural planner with a background in textiles and design. After many years working in the arts, she was appointed lead curator of Ngalang Koort Boodja Wirn, (Our Heart, Country, Spirit), WA Museum Boola Bardip. As First Nations Curator at John Curtin Gallery, she curated Tracing the Art of a Stolen Generation- the child artists of Carrolup, touring to Manchester and Glasgow in 2022. In 2024, she curated Wadjemup Wirin Bidi (Rottnest Island Spiritual Journey) Exhibition at the Wadjemup Museum. She has a Masters’ Degree in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies, Deakin University. She is currently a Research Fellow with LaTrobe University on the Ngura Ninti project, a Routledge publication.
